Send me the most beautiful iPhone 12 cases! I need a new one. 😊

If you remember a website that no longer exists and that you have not saved away, but that you would like to visit again…

My lifesaver.

The iPhone 12 feels terrible in the hand. I still have my Pixel 3 lying here. That was a real pleasure to hold. A really great, beautiful smartphone. It’s a shame that it’s out of the update cycle.

Have I already mentioned how cool I think my Youtube Premium subscription is? It’s the best subscription I have at the moment. And I’m not joking in the slightest.

The Colorize Neural Filter in Adobe Photoshop is fantastic. 🤩

For weeks I noted things on paper down. Now I have the reMarkable 2 lying here and haven’t written a single word since.

Troubleshooting:

  • Is there currently nothing to write down?
  • Does the device scare me?
  • Do I like real paper more?
  • Why do elephants have such long noses?

reMarkable 2 trial started.

From my HP Probook the keyboard does not work anymore. If I plug in an external one, I can type with it, but the notebook keyboard does nothing except “beep” when I press on it. I can’t find a solution to the problem. Windows 11. Any ideas?

My photo backup storage at Google is full. I would use Google One. Do you think 2 TB for 100 EUR a year is OK? I really like the service and think my pictures are well stored. And with the Pixel 3 I had almost 3 years of free storage for thousands of photos. Moving all of that somewhere else seems like bullshit to me.

I want to check out Routine. Could you please sign up to push me up on the waiting list? :D

Following up on a discussion about the underdog Threema with @maique, @pcora, @rom. Among others, I’d like to share that I’m going back to Evernote. The tool is not perfect. Far from it. But it simply offers everything I need at a reasonable price with countless interfaces.

Youtube Premium Turkish account -> ~ 1 EUR per month in contrast to the German account 13 EUR per month. Works great. Only in Youtube Music you get numerous Turkish “hits” as a recommendation. You can not have everything.

I love Youtube Premium and I get Youtube Music with it. The free trial month is almost over and I’m thinking about subscribing. What do you think about Youtube Music? Spotify is the non-plus-ultra, but here I would get a great total package.

I just re-registered some old domains of mine. I was surprised that some were not blocked anymore. For example one of my oldest: filmfehler.net. I had a great page for movie mistakes maybe 20 years ago. Now I own the domain again. I don’t know if I’ll restart using it, but…

Attention, Todoist is getting more expensive. Pro and Business prices will increase from 6 June 2022. Maybe you should sign up for Pro now and lock the old price? According to my German source, this is possible.

Tools for problems you don't have

I have now started to highlight various texts. I never thought I would start doing that. And Readwise is now my fifth (??) attempt. I like it very much. I’ll wait and see if and how I use it for a while.

Attention, advertising. If you also want to use it - want to try it out - with this link you get an additional trial month and I may also play around with it “for free” for a month longer.

Why the question for a fifth try? Well. I had saved quotes in the past sometimes. And I think it started with Evernote. I copied texts and just pasted them as notes. That was okay as a solution. But Evernote is a lame overloaded crutch. It’s no fun to use the tool. Get rid of it.

And then? I am also a MyMind user. I can store everything in it. Pictures, videos, whole articles, quotes and highlights. It really is a kind of second brain and I love it. But somehow the highlights didn’t fit 100% in there or I just don’t know exactly how and what I do with them.

So I have a tool that only deals with that. I can also favouritise and tag the highlights in it, I have various interfaces, for example to my Kindle, on which I only very rarely highlighte anything. But I have the possibilities and a nice interface.

As I said, it’s a test. Probably just a .txt file would do, which I fill from top to bottom with highlights and source. That’s free and also searchable.

I am someone who likes to try out tools, but in the wrong direction. I try to solve problems that I don’t have with tools I don’t need. I still have to work on that.

I am now a Youtube Premium subscriber.

Let the shitstorm begin in 3… 2…

The initial loading of Evernote takes so long that you can completely read through about 10 of the rotating tips on how to best use the program. Fortunately, I don’t use the tool anymore.

A little chat with Apple support

… there was a lot going on in the beginning of the chat. Then:

Apple Support:

Please let me know if you have any additional questions for me today?

Me:

I don’t know. What could I ask you? How is the weather wherever you are?

Apple Support:

Haha very very hot! I hope you are doing awesome all the way in beautiful Germany Dominik!

If you need me I am only a chat away. For now please do me a favor to stay happy and positive whatever this life would bring! I wish you the best! Keep rocking as how you have been today! It has been a pleasure assisting such a sweet customer like you. Thank you for being part of Apple Family! No goodbyes, just see you around. Cheering up for you!

Just do it!

Nice, very nice, what my new boss has put in my head. Just do it! Ingenious, actually. In every respect.

For example, looking for a note taking tool that I really like. I already found it and it costs $15 a month. That’s really hefty. But it’s the tool that resonates with me.

I’ve invested a few hours to find a good cheap or free alternative, but none of them match what I have in mind, even if they are close.

So, let’s get back to the saying. Just do it! I’ll stick with reflect.app for now. I’ll pay the money. We’ll see after a year if it was really good or stupid. But spending even more time on researching other tools seems even more stupid to me than paying 15 dollars and being happy for now.

Just do it!

Yes, I am! You’re right. I’m going to do some other stuff just like that! I think this change to my new position has somehow changed something in me. Or maybe I made the change because something had already changed before. Either way - great going. So keep up the good work.

Just do it. I will learn from mistakes. And who knows, maybe nothing will be a mistake?

So, congratulations to me and everyone else. This post is an unfortunate mix of tech and life wisdom.

But while we’re at it.

Life is change.

Again, that’s what a very wise person told me recently. And so far, many changes in my life have been good.

Get out of your comfort zone and just do it.

Just do it!

For a lot of money, I keep buying Sky Safari Pro. Now it is released in version 7. 50% cheaper, still expensive. I bought it like the other versions before. And I will use it just as rarely (1x a year?).

Stupid. Stupid. Typical. 🤦

Switched back from Firefox to Google Chrome because of Reflect.app Browser Extension. (Just a test, but…)

Today, once again, the category: trial subscriptions that I forgot to cancel: Tidal. I was just charged 10 euros for the next month. (I haven’t used the last 3 trial months…) 🤦‍♀️

How to share my iPhone screen via the iPhone in a nice iPhone frame? 😂

I bet there’s an app for that. @maique ?

I need a free credit card or similar for Apple Pay. Recommendations?
